I'm Trish. I run Fare-Well Co. from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and I'm the one who reads your order when you send something.

After my own losses, and years spent sitting with other people in theirs, I learned that it's usually not that people don't want to help. It's that they don't know what to do, and the not-knowing is what stops help from happening at all. It's also how a house ends up full of flowers with nothing in the fridge for dinner. Everyone says let me know if you need anything, and means it, and then nothing happens, because it's hard to know what you need or what's reasonable to ask for when you're in the middle of it. Fare-Well Co. Care exists to fix that one specific problem.

I work with a small group of local providers I've chosen deliberately: cleaners, pet people, delivery drivers, trades and handymen. Sometimes it's me. Sometimes it's a member of my own family. I know their work, and I'd send every one of them to my own family's door. If somebody can't be gentle with a household having the worst month of its life, they won't be sent to yours.

What that means in practice is that a real person confirms your gift and arranges it, and your message is copied out in my own handwriting, in your exact words, onto a card that's locally made and right for the moment. When something can't be done well, I'll tell you rather than do it badly, and I'll help you find another way.
